Not enough sleep last night because of pain has caused a delay in everything today. However, I am blessed that I was able to go back to bed after getting up this morning to get my son off to school (he didn't go because he wasn't feeling well). So, in a daze, I dropped back into slumber for a few more hours. That takes time away from the day, but I still manage to get things done.
One thing that always gets done (at least 5-6 days per week) is yoga. It saves me. It helps so much with pain. It helps so much with anxiety.
This pose I am doing in this picture is called Extended Side Angle. I would normally not be holding my ankle, but the grass under my mat was not very even so I needed to hold on for dear life, lol. Here are the benefits of extended side angle.
"Benefits of Extended Side Angle Pose. Parsvakonasana relieves stiffness in the shoulders and back. It provides a deep stretch to the groins and hamstrings, and it also improves stamina. This pose strengthens the legs, knees, and ankles, while also stretching and toning the abdominal muscles" - YogaOutlet.com
This time of year, I am so obsessed with yard stuff. I love to germinate plants from seed, as well as watch things come back to life that have been seemingly lifeless during Winter.
Today, I decided to put some empty soda bottles to good use. It's super easy to make these soda bottle greenhouses and they work awesome. Here are the steps.
1. Clean empty soda bottle(s) and remove the label (if you wish to).
2. Cut in half across the middle, leaving about 2 inches attached.
3. Fill with dirt and plant seeds or roots as directed.
4. Tape across the middle for stability and to contain water and warmth and be sure to label the bottle so you remember what you planted there;)
5. Add water and replace cap. Place bottle on the window sill.
6. Watch the magic happen.
I know that sometimes we get sucked into media and binge on some platforms like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. Sure, there is some great stuff. But, what does that do to our brains?
We need consistent uplifting material to put positive messages back into our thinking cap. We need to read that material...not just watch. Our brain processes things different when we read. It enhances the messages. It works the muscle, so to speak.
My favorite book is The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, by Deepak Chopra. It really is about universal energy. It's about the energy that we give and take on a daily basis. It's a cycle that is something that every person and living thing on the planet has in common. There are activities to do at the end of each section, which I love because it's action taking with what you read.
As you can see, it's a well-used book. It goes so well with the yoga lifestyle, or any other lifestyle if you would like to improve your life.
What are your favorite books?
This week flew by!
Here's the my regular Feng Shui Friday. Today's is about the water element.
Today has been a great day. I was productive from the start and that always feels good.
Yoga was a huge priority. Does anyone else have issues where they shake a ton in certain poses, even while having done them for years? Just wondering if there is a solution for that. Of course, it's mainly during plank:) I think everyone has some shake in plank pose...am I right?
We still have a bird problem. We got them out of the vent that went to our bathroom, put a new vent cover on and a cage. So, now they have decided to go back to the laundry room vent again. I keep doing laundry and running the dryer and they keep putting more nesting in the vent. We have a vent cover with those flaps on it. Tomorrow, we will be putting a cage on that vent.
It's a beautiful day out today. There was a little chill in the air, but nothing I couldn't take care of with a nice light sweater. So comfy. Here's the outfit of the day. #OOTD
I've been super consistent with the light therapy. It's actually been making a difference in a ton of ways.
1. My skin tone is less ashy and more lively.
2. Some of the age spots are starting to fade.
3. My under eye circles are starting to slowly fade.
4. The keratosis pilaris is shrinking and clearing.
Here is documentation of this therapy being used for keratosis pilaris...
"This skin condition is characterized by tiny, rough red bumps around the hair follicles of the arms, legs, buttocks and cheeks. When light therapy is used in combination with other dermatological therapies it is effective in the treatment of Keratosis Pilaris." - Fairview Cosmetic Surgery
5. Wrinkles are starting to slowly smooth.
AND...a surprising benefit (well, not so surprising)...
6. My mood is changing. It seems impossible that I could see more of a change, since I am pretty zen already. However, I have been seeing more of a pep in my step and more smiles on my face, when I least expect them to be there. Here is some documentation to back that up...
"DepressionIn addition to treating skin conditions and cancer, blue light therapy can also be used as a treatment for depression.
It’s especially effective when treating major depressive disorder with seasonal patterns, formerly known as seasonal affective disorder (SAD). This condition is often partially caused by dreary winter weather, darker days, and spending more time indoors. It can be treated with light." - Healthline
7. Improved sleep. Yes, this has actually improved my sleep. Here's documentation to show that this can help in some cases...
"For those who suffer from circadian rhythm disorders, the use of light therapy—especially with blue spectrum light—has become a nonpharmacological way to help people "reset" rhythms that have shifted from normal schedules." - Sound Sleep Health
Here are the results I can capture by camera:)
This is the accent wall in our eating area before putting the gallery up.
Today, I put the final accent on the gallery wall in my eating area.
Our whole family tends to hang out together on the main floor. We watch shows together. We fix, serve and eat dinner together. We eat other meals together.
It's only obvious that this is the perfect place for a gallery wall. There is the perfect lighting. This is an accent wall anyway.
This is part of my process. I laid out the gallery (for the most part) on the floor, in front of the wall I was putting it up on so that I could visualize it and then take a photo to refer to while installing.
I mixed as much of past and present as would fit, as well as some accents. I have pictures of the kids when they were younger, of my husband and I on our wedding day, and of the kids in present tense. I realized that we need to get an updated family picture.
As far as the accents, one accent is the word HOPE. Another accent is the word FAITH. The main accentuating piece is FAMILY GATHERS HERE.
I also added a plaque that my oldest got as a white elephant gift (a really generous white elephant). It states...
BE THANKFUL. LIVE SIMPLY. BE KIND. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. NEVER GIVE UP. USE PLEASE AND THANK YOU. HELP OTHERS. CHERISH FAMILY AND FRIENDS. DO YOUR BEST. LISTEN WITH YOUR HEART. LAUGH OFTEN AND LOVE LOTS. I thought that was a great message, or messages!
In Feng Shui, you place things as inspiration and as cues for behavior and outcome. These messages on my gallery wall certainly do this.
This is the final product. Now I need to find a piece of furniture for under the gallery to add storage and use as an accent and anchor.
Boy have I got a BEFORE and AFTER for you!
We have been working on paying off medical debt and on doing everything else in cash so that we could catch up in this thing called life. So, we have worked with our appliances for a long time while they have been in less than good condition. In fact, we compared ourselves to the Heck family on The Middle, and were laughing about it. If you haven't seen that show, watch it. It will make you laugh.
Anyway, because you can't bake when the door to the oven falls off and won't go back on, along with the fact that the handle is missing (from like a year ago) and the door doesn't quite stay shut (among other things), we decided to get a new oven. From looking at all of the ovens out there in our price range (for this house, anyway), Samsung had the very best in sturdiness, features, warranty, etc. Looking at it side-by-side with the other oven ranges, the others felt like they would fall apart within a short period of time.
We broke down and bought something nice. Isn't it beautiful? What do you think?
Also, the necklace that my son ordered for me before my birthday (in March) finally came. He ordered it on Ebay. It's a necklace with a locket, where you can add things to it and where you can see what is inside. Take a look. Isn't it thoughtful and beautiful?
I am working on my gallery wall for the remainder of the day (other than basic stuff and yoga, of course) and I will blog on that and show it to you tomorrow. Therefore, the outfit of the day is sweats and a tee. So very glamorous :)
It is super windy today. I mean SUPER windy.
These pictures show the amazing view from Saturday, compared to the view from today. That is quite a difference and all from wind! My son said that he had to cover his mouth, nose and shield his eyes from the debris, dirt, etc from the wind on his way home from the bus. He also said that there was a portapotty from a construction site across from the school that came wizzing (couldn't resist:) across the street, nearly tipping over.
It's also the warm before the storm. 74 today for the high temperature and it is supposed to snow tomorrow. Mother Nature cannot decide what season it is. Up and down the roller coaster we go.
So, Mondays are always clean sheet day around here, along with a ton of other laundry. In addition, I'm getting things ready for our new oven. I'll post a before and after picture tomorrow. You'll be amazed at the difference ;)
Today is a comfort day. I love to read while I am doing laundry. Here's today's outfit of the day. No, I have not had the cashmere on while cleaning or doing laundry. It's just as a comfort for in between and after. Otherwise, it's a paisley tee and jeans kinda day. Note: wanna make a mom happy in your life, choose cashmere. She will love you!
